Thais Rosan

Thais Rosan is a geographer and remote sensing scientist with over ten years of experience. She holds a BSc in Geography (UNESP, Brazil), an MSc in Remote Sensing (INPE, Brazil), and a PhD in Physical Geography (University of Exeter, UK). Currently, she is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Exeter.


Her research focuses on the impacts of human activities, such as land-use change, landscape fragmentation, and fire, on carbon cycle and ecosystem functioning. Thais leads the RECCAP South America initiative and has been a regular contributor to the Global Carbon Budget assessment, cementing her reputation as an international expert on carbon cycle science. She has a proven track record of contributing to international research collaborations (including European Space Agency projects and large-scale philanthropic initiatives) and regularly engages with policy and stakeholder audiences, translating cutting-edge science into accessible outputs for decision-making. By applying advanced spatial analysis and remote sensing approaches, Thais provides actionable insights into how environmental change affects both local landscapes and the global climate system.

Alongside her research, Thais is deeply committed to higher education teaching and mentoring. She is actively engaged with teaching and mentoring PhD students, particularly those from international backgrounds.


She is particularly passionate about supporting evidence-based strategies to mitigate climate change, enhancing sustainable land management, and inspiring the next generation of environmental scientists through teaching and mentorship.
