Régia Estevam

Régia Estevam is a geographer, professor and researcher, focusing on studies on land degradation and desertification. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree from the Universidade Federal de Goiás and a PhD from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.


During her undergraduate studies, she worked on several teaching, research and extension projects, including studies on land degradation. While pursuing her master’s degree, she mapped the environmental fragility of a river basin, identifying areas with soil degradation. During her doctoral program, she assessed soil degradation in two municipalities, trying to determine whether it was land degradation or desertification.


Between 2020 and 2022, she worked as a YouthMappers Regional Ambassador, helping students and faculty create chapters and develop collaborative and humanitarian mapping activities at Brazilian public universities. She worked as a temporary professor at the Universidade Federal Goiás and the Instituto Federal de Mato Grosso.


Since 2016, she has been a guest ad hoc reviewer for the journals Caminhos de Geografia and Sociedade & Natureza. She currently works as a professor at the Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso and continues to develop research on land degradation and desertification, contributing to the advancement of sustainable land management studies.
